Saint Paul Businesses Recognized for Progress

From beer brewing, hydroponic factory farming to mobile management apps, Saint Paul companies continue to make waves with fresh, dynamic ideas.

Every year, Finance and Commerce honors businesses across Minnesota with their Progress Minnesota Awards. The awards highlight the energy, thought, and unique ideas of how Minnesotans do business - and how they are changing it.  The awards are a chance for people to see the unique work that goes on behind creating your craft beer, tasty veggies and community banking.

At this year’s awards, eight Saint Paul businesses and organizations were honored for the innovative work they do. For many people, these companies are just around the corner.

Check out Saint Paul’s winners:

Defense Alliance - The group works to network and expand the defense industry and technology base of the Upper Midwest and promote the region’s innovative contributions to the nation’s defense.

Garden Fresh Farms - was founded in May 2010 by David and DJ Roeser with a plan to build a nationwide network of investor-owned, indoor hydroponic farms. Using their patent pending equipment, they can produce 100 acres of produce in a one acre building using 90 percent less water than the irrigated field of California.

The Orbiting Garden
Genesys Works -  employs an innovative business model to help move low-income students out of poverty while helping build Minnesota’s future workforce. They provide youth with the guidance, tools, resources, and economic opportunities to create a path out of poverty and into a world of financial stability and self-sufficiency. Of the 389 students that have completed the Genesys Works program in its first five years of operation, 100 percent have graduated from high school with 97 percent enrolling in college.

Primordial Soup - A unique product design and engineering firm located in Lowertown focused on the development of medical devices that helps start-ups and provides resources for businesses to turn creative ideas into reality.

Summit Brewing Company - One of Saint Paul's greatest success stories. Summit currently produces 125,000 barrels of beer annually with six regular brews and several more seasonal and special brews. With a recent expansion they have the capacity to brew up to 240,000 barrels per year.

Sunrise Banks – Chartered on the belief that if the community succeeds, the company succeeds. Sunrise has seven branches, and they focus on economic development in the Twin Cities’ underserved communities.

The Greater Minnesota Partnership - Works to advocate for state economic development policies and resources that benefit Greater Minnesota.  The organization created an internship tax credit program to encourage engineers and other professionals to stay in Minnesota.

thisClicks, Inc. - A mobile software company that is "consumerizing" business-to-business software in the workforce management space with their headline making When I Work and WageBase mobile apps, used by restaurants, reatilers and health care providers all over the world for employee scheduling, communication, and time keeping.
